Default Any views on 8" Meade Lightbridge scope.

I'm considering buying a reasonable Telescope.
It's just an interest I'm taking a step further, for Casual / Recreational
use. I'm not a complete novice to the subject, but I'm no expert or
enthusiastic amateur either.

I'm considering buying an 8" Meade Lightbridge.
My investigations suggests this scope should be suitable for what I want to
do with it, and it should have decent optics (my main thrust here).
Does anyone have one, to comment on, or know about them with respect
to their general use and more importantly the quality of the optics / image.
Re-collimation will be an issue I suspect.

(Since the Lightbridge range are all relatively similar this request could
also cover the 10,12, or 16" versions; allowing for the associated physical
size and power increases of course).

On or about 2008-10-30,
D P ickett <[Registered users can see links. ].uk> illuminated us with:

I've been toying with the idea of a 12" one. Or possibly a Skywatcher
FlexTube Dobsonian. Chatting with the chap at Greenwich, I got the
impression that a cover for the open part of the tube would be a good
idea if you have extraneous light around.

For anything upto an 8", an elasticated shower cap works well.

Has the OP posted this anywhere else and got a response?
I ask because I'm surprised that there has been so little response here
and wondering if this group really isn't worth reading any more.
i.e. is there some where else I should be reading (I hate web based groups).

You are quite right Abo. Should have read the post properly!!!

If you know anyone handy with a sewing machine, then black ripstop nylon and
velcro is what you need
