Default Skywatcher 150 on an EQ3-2 mount

Just about to buy myself one of these scopes after reading through many
newgroups and discussion boards for some advice beforehand. Anyone know
exactly where the optics are made for them? It looks like they're part of
the American Pacific Optics Corporation but I've had mixed replies as to
whether it's German or American made optics inside the thing.

    I'm hoping it's a reasonable first scope for £210 (around $350) considering
it's for my young niece to get her interested in the subject (and me now
that I've got my act together after many years of thinking about it!!). I
assume I'll be able to prove once and for all the moon's not really made of
    cheese?

    Probably Chinese. Almost certainly Chinese.

In my experience, dealing with a lot of Chinese companies (in the
electronics industry), "American Pacific Optics Corporations" has a
distinctly Chinese ring to it. This is not necessarily a bad thing though.
That looks to be a good price for a decent looking piece of kit.

You might need to buy a small stepladder to go with it depending on how tall
    your niece is.

    You're wrong.

Well, I'm 6ft 4 so she can stand on my head I suppose! The delivery date
will be another 3 weeks off yet as its out of stock, but I don't see that it
includes any filters - is this common practice with the Skywatcher
telescopes? Sell them cheaper so you have to spend a fortune buying the
    extra kit??

    I'm thinking Gorgonzola....

Or she could stand on your shoulders and literalise Isaac Newton's famous
    metaphor.
