Default Need help making a final purchasing decision

Ok, first things first. I'm a newbie.

I've been wanting to view the night sky for yonks and have finally gotten
round to taking the plunge. But... which scope to buy???

I've done some research and have decided that one of these two telescopes
will be in my possession in a week or two.

    1. A Sky-Watcher Explorer 250PX-EQ6
    or
    2. A Meade LX90 LNT.

My main viewing interest will be in deep sky. (Though I will want to view
    planets too).

The question is, which is better for deep sky observations?
(I guess I'm being torn between aperture size and technology...)

    hi Bob,

#1 will show you more, #2 will find it for you.

The choice is yours, personally I'd go for the aperture, you can always
upgrade the EQ6 to full GOTO at a later date.

    I have a 10" f5 newt on a EQ6 and a LX90 (non LNT), the newt gets
used more because of the better views, the LX90 gets used when I'm
    feeling lazy!

You may want to think about buying the mount and scope seperately, I
bought a 10" Dob for just over £300 then bought the rings to mount it
on my EQ6, that way I've got a Dob base if I fancy a quick set up. It
works out pretty much the same price-wise.

Many thanks for your thoughts, Gaz, but as ever, yet another scope has
entered the frame to cloud my judgement even further.
I agree with you though, I'd rather go for the larger aperture.
    So...

It is to be a Sky-Watcher Explorer 250PX-EQ6
    or a LXD75 10" SN - UHTC

Good grief, all I want to do is see the heavens!
