Question Making a Synscan SupaTrak into a goto?

I want to upgrade my supatrak to a goto system. Is it is as simple as replacing the handset and cable? or is it more complicated.

I've not heard of anyone doing that. I'd think it was possible but I don't know how hard.

One thought, however? Financially you might be better off selling the SupraTrak system and then buying a good used GoTo system.

I have not heard of this mount before so after a quick search it seems to me that the mount is basically a SLT mount that is only capable of tracking an object.

According to a post on the Star Gazers Lounge forum from 2014, yes.
Replacing the Supatrak handset and cable with a Synscan handset will provide GOTO capability.

Is there a local astro club near you? You might be able to borrow a handset to try it.

Only one post about it in 5 years?
It seems strange that Synta would put the same boards in and hobble it with a lesser hand controller and nobody else has figured this out yet.

But is the GOTO in the handset or in the mount? I don't know.

ETA - or maybe you can DIY it - https://www.sharpcap.co.uk/other-stu...-mount-hacking

Very interesting, thank you for the link
It seems the encoders are just some form of digital/ analog signal for these mounts, interesting.
