    Default Upgrading a stock mount

Morning all, I currently have a Orion Astroview 90mm with the stock mount and considering to upgrade to a Sky-Watcher USA EQM-35 Equatorial Goto Mount.

My question is what would I need to mount the scope to the mount since the scope doesn't have a "standard" dovetail style and I don't believe the Sky-Watcher has one either? (I just might be missing it)

    Thank you.

    Tom

From the images I looked at online they both seem to use the standard Vixen style dovetail plate.
Is the dovetail on the Astroview removable with the telescope?

ok i watched a close up video of the scope, the rings bolt directly to the mount which has a permanent dovetail ,

what you need is to buy a vixen style dovetail , the holes should be standard if not, you might need some new bolts or some diy on the dovetail .

edit:i had a look at some vixen dovetails, they have a slot in the middle that the main bolt goes through from the rings, it looks like you might need some bolts and nuts/washers as well, i don't recall if they do come with any.

your current scope mounting plate uses threaded holes without nuts ?

edit, here is a vixen that comes with adjustment screws which is handy for cone error adjustment , it looks like it uses threaded hole attachment points

The AstroView only mounts via rings with bolts and nuts, not to a dovetail.

You should be able to mount your existing rings on any Vixen style plate to attach it to the Skywatcher mount.

The plate you found is a Losmany sized plate which is to large for the Skywatcher or Astroview.
Losmandy plates are typically for large/ heavy telescopes.
Here is a ad for one that will work for you: https://optcorp.com/products/orion-n...mounting-plate
They are available from any Astro retailer.

(Orion 7954) a little pricey , you don't need a wide 355mm long losmandy dovetail plate for the 90mm scope unless you plan to use it for other scopes

Somewhere in the ad copy it should say Vixen style, just bolt your rings to it and mount it on the Skywatcher mount
