Did you collimate (center) the polar scope?? It's a tedious 30 minute process, but necessary. Only have to do it once.
Here's how I polar align.
I rotate the mount in RA so that the counterweight bar follows an imaginary line from Polaris to Kochab. End of the bar points to Kochab.
Adjust the mount in Alt/Az so that Polaris is on the first hash mark closest to the center. The little circle is the position Polaris was in in the late 90's.
Re-home the mount and do a one star alignment using the star closest to 0° declination. I then do a sync to object on the first couple of objects I observe. As the night goes on, you may have to do another sync to object.
