    Default Bresser EXOS-2 Go To

I've decided I want to de-fork the trusty C8 and mount it on an EQ Go to mount. At first I was considering the Celestron AVX, but now for a few hundred less one can get the Bresser EXOS-2 Go To. It looks identical to the Mead LDX75 mount, but with a different controller.

Anyone out there have experience with this particular mount?

    Hi Scott
I purchased the EXOS-2 Go To a year ago and found many good qualities, solid build, it was not too noisy, good tripod and not too much plastic, but for me it was a mistake. I needed to be able to connect to my PC, and this is not possible with this mount. There is no ASCOM software for connecting the Messier to any program on the computer. Very disappointing, but if you do not need the ASCOM software it is probably a good choice.

How good is the controller? Does the star alignment methods good enough?

Sorry, I felt that it was a bit "hit and miss". I have move on to a new Celsetron AVX and invested in the Celestron Starsense. Star alignment in 3 min, and a good polar alignment in 10.

AVX is actually my first choice and I'm reading some about the mount, the only concern I have are the problems some people are encountering with their new mount (error 16/17) and since it will be shipped overseas I believe warranty will be an issue if I ran into problems.

On the other hand, I can't seem to find much info regarding the EXOS-2, it's performance, etc. The info I gather is that it is mechanically good, but very few ever discussed anything about the electronics, alignment, etc. Warranty will also be an issue with this one as well.

I'm looking at this mount to use with my little video assisted astronomy setup (AVS DSO-1 camera and starblast 4.5 imaging reflector or my st80 or st120 achro refractors). No pc control currently but both Explore Scientific ("There is a RS-232 port on the unit but unfortunately it is not working for now. We're working on a fix and hope to have it ready in the next few months.-Jonathan" at Explore Scientific customer service) and a Bresser distributor in Germany http://http://www.telescopehouse.com/acatalog/info-4964300.html suggest they are working on the ASCOM drivers and cable required.
Since Explore Scientific is part of Bresser and distributes these mounts in the US perhaps they would handle any warranty issues? My thinking is that this might be a good budget mount for my purposes once a few of these questions are more completely answered. The EXOS 2gt supposedly equals or exceeds the AVX mount in one area by using roller bearings on both axes instead of just one.

I also received the following response from a Bresser rep in Germany when I asked about pc control of the EXOS 2gt:

    Dear Customer,
    Thank you for your email.
We are sorry, but the PC connection cable with driver and software are still under development. We have no date in the moment When it is ready.
    Sincerely · Best regards

and one more answer from OPT here in the US:

Does this mount allow for pc control with standard ascom driver software programs, like Stellarium or others?
Question by: WC on Oct 12, 2015 9:12:00 PM
Currently there are no ASCOM drivers available for this mount. It does however have an ST4 autoguide port to allow autoguiding without using ASCOM

The Bresser EXOS is a solid mount, but the missing drivers made it unusable for what I wanted to do. Mr. Sven Stoelker has had the same reply on questions concerning cable and drivers for over a year now. When I purchased it, over a year ago, I did not know that no drivers where available so the first thing was contact Bresser GmbH. The answer then was that it would be available shortly, then after a while it would be available this summer and when asked again this summer it was still some time in the future. I got sick of waiting. I did not want to waste another winter waiting for something that I was beginning to doubt would ever be available. Sorry, I am rambling. My advice is to stay away from this mount.
