My EQ6 kit is estimated to be delivered on Tuesday next week. I'm not likely to be installing it right away with work and all plus the constant clouds everyday provides me plenty of time to not rush.

Well, Dave is going to be happy with this thread as I am taking the plunge on an EQ6 kit also. Now I can sympathize with the Brits shipping from the States to their side of the pond, jeez, kind of pricey!

Looks like quality components. I held off purchasing the EQ6 kit until I can get a better feel for how my EQ-G performs prior to the upgrade (probably end of summer). Looking forward to your experiences doing the upgrade Chris. Thanks for the pic!

Got my kit yesterday, raining this whole week so should have time to put it together ;-). My DEC guiding session yesterday looked like a bull riding session... Hopefully the bull will be tamed...

What kit did you pick up? If you have the EQ6 kit post any tips you may run into along the way.

Just finished installing the Rowan astronomy kit. Went fairly smoothly.. However, once complete, I noticed that the RA Belt was riding up on the large gear during slew. Looking at it closely it was because the large gear was lower than the smaller 9 tooth gear. After several adjustments (kind of finicky...) I was able to adjust it such that the belt would ride both gears properly. You simply have to raise or lower the large gear on the pin until it is essentially level with the smaller gear and the roller pin. Roller also needs to be level with the other gears to keep the belt at the same level.

When I put the spacer and covers on, I ran into another issue... The belt and the roller pins were touching the cover, I believe somebody else ran into this issue. I simply used a single Nylon spacer on every screw to elevate the cover by about 1.5mm. The belt and rollers now have enough clearance, all is well.

The one tip I might have that differs slightly from the instructions is relative to installing the belts. The instructions want you to install and screw in the motor assembly then install the belt. This can get very tight as the belt is not that flexible. The way I did it was to put the motor back in the mount, left it unscrewed such that it slides down a bit towards the large gear. This makes it easier to install the belt. Once the belt is installed, simply push the motor back up which will tension the belt and screw the motor in. Voila!

Mount is obviously much quieter, less greasy. It has been raining the past few days in Northern California and we don't expect any clear skies until Wednesday at the earliest...An update once I had a change to look at guiding improvements.

I've just bought the HEQ5-Pro and have already decided to purchase this mod kit as the worm / pec problems appear to be the biggest issue with the mount. Great to be able to access these posts for us new guys, it allows us access to the best possible performance from our gear quickly. Those that have gone before! :-)
    Many thanks and clear skies.
