    Default Does it matter?

Good day and sure hope spring is in the air for all!! I have the new edition of the LXD-75 system by Meade. The hand controller is not an AutoStar but a AudioStar controller. I have noticed something wierd.

When I was playing with the hand controller I was looking thru "double stars" and " stars " I noticed that the "voice" was telling me a different distance to the star in question then the hand controllers scrolling data? I have a few examples below:

    Albireo:
    The voice says: 385lys away
The scrolling data on the hand controller says: 191.7lys

    Almaak:
    Voice: 350ly
    Controller: 250.7ly

    Betelgeuse:
    Voice: 427ly
    Controller: 652ly

It also claims Betelgeuse is a multiple star? I suppose this could be I don't really know. So here's the rub so to speak. Will this darn thing track and find things properly? I'm sure the audio track is just that a audio track and has nothing to do with navigation of the stars. I can always shut the "voice" off. To me that option, while very cool isn't really needed except perhaps at star partys? I'm not really sure that this is a big deal? or is it? As long as the mount works as advertised then the mount can sing to me if it wishs ( or if I want to listen ).

Any opinions? I haven't spoken to Meade yet. Like I had mentioned, if the mount tracks and can find objects then the voice is just a novility.

I look forward to your inputs! Oh the setup really is a beautiful thing I can hardly wait for first light! I'll have to post a review.

What do you expect! How would you like to be stuck inside the hand controller while different people handled you with their sweaty HANDS!

I have no doubt that this is simply a bug in the software. No one correlated the data inside the hand controller with the NEW "astronomer" voice. This model Meade scope has had a series of firmware updates (correcting software issues) since it was first released.

I expect there to be more updates in the future.

An update!! I talked to Meade and they in turn tested all the AudioStars they had at hand. I think they said a half dozen or so and everyone did exactly the samething as the one I own. They told me I was the first guy in the two months since roll out of this controller that noticed it! Anyways the engineers said exactly the samethng Joe. The mount is okay. I'v been playing wth the mount all week and I'm pretty sure its tracking okay. So on the next update I'll fix up the software and off we go.

    Cheers
