    Default Any Recommended Retailers?

    Hi all,

I have always been interested in astronomy and looking to take it to the next level by purchasing a telescope. Based on my needs (budget, urban setting, portability) I've narrowed it down to either the Celestron 4SE or 5SE.

Can anyone recommend a retailer or know of current promotions that would help reduce the initial cost of purchase? I'm also looking into acquiring some eyepieces separately.

Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hello and welcome.

First, I would suggest that you spend an afternoon and go up to Anacortes and visit Anacortes Telescope: https://www.buytelescopes.com/

I've been in that shop a couple of times and have always enjoyed my visit with all the instruments they have on display. It will give you a first-hand impression of what think you want versus what you may not have known you wanted!

Let us know how it goes.

    Cheers,
    JT

There is a telescope dealer in Ballard, I got my AR152 there. Very nice people and knowledgeable.

    Welcome to the forum!!

Does "taking it to the next level" mean that you are progressing from observing with binoculars to observing with a scope?

If not, then you need to seriously consider getting a pair of binoculars as well, especially considering the types of scopes you are thinking about (they have a very narrow field of view). The binoculars will show/teach you a TON of stuff, are the ultimate in portability, useful no matter what scope/scopes you have, useful during the day, more comfortable using both eyes, offer serious performance for relatively little investment, and are FUN!! Despite owning many, many scopes, the VAST majority of my observing is done with binoculars.

I always check with Amazon/Walmart first. Amazon and Walmart have the best return policy. They actually pay for return shipping. Make sure it is being shipped or fulfilled by Amazon/Walmart.

I would deal with a Telescope dealer. Agena and High Point will price match if you find it cheaper.
    Agena Astro Products
    High Point Scientific
    Oceanside Photo and Telescope
    B&H Camera
    SpyderwerX and burris like this.
Mounts: EQ1, LXD55, Atlas EQ-G (one with Rowan belt mod, EQ6-Rail and one without)
