Default OTA weights & mount loading capacity.

Can anyone recommend a site that give weights of OTAs and/or the loading capacity of different mounts?

Vendors sites seem to give any information except these two vital figures.

I'm thinking of getting a 120mm refractor and an EQ mount. I've seen 3 different weights quoted for the telescope ranging from 4.5 to 5.5 kilos. It maybe that the lowest figure is bare and the higher figure includes the finderscope and diagonal, I just don't know. It can't include for the eyepiece of course and I realise there is a lot of difference weightwise between my cheapy 1.25" 10mm plossl and my Hyperion zoom.

Same story with the mount. Everyone seems shy about publishing a figure. In the case of Teleskop Express in Germany (from whom I've purchased 3 telecopes) I sent an email asking them if mount A could support scope B. No, they said. Despite the fact that they advertise just such a combination.!!!

Obviously cost is a big factor in my decision otherwise I'd just get a big heavy mount and be done with it. But there is a lot of difference between an NEQ6 Pro Synscan for a grand, and an EQ2 for about an eighth of the price.

I'm looking at Skywatcher Evostar 120mm, Celestron Omni XLT120 or Bresser Messier AR-127S. Budget says EQ3-2 with RA motor drive is what I'm looking at, but I'd hate to get one and find it performs like a drunken giraffe on a trampoline under the weight of the refractor.

    Any thoughts guys?

    Alec.

Astronomics.com prints a lot of specifications on the products they sell. You will have to convert weights to metric though.
