Default Received my new SV Raptor 90mm refractor!

A couple weeks ago, I was asking about a good quality refractor for a decent price for imaging, to replace my current SkyWatcher. I received many suggestions and decided on the Stellarvue 90mm Raptor triplet with the standard SV 2.5" focuser after talking directly with Vic, the owner of Stellarvue. Very, very nice gentleman with very good products, so it was an easy sell.

I ordered it on a Tuesday from Durham Skies in Pickering Ontario and received it on Thursday! Shipping was only $30 and they still had one at the sale price of $1495. Excellent service there.

The retaining ring that holds the lenses in place was a little loose probably due to shipping, so that scared me a little. But after discussions with Vic and Paul (astronewb), it turned out that it was an easy fix. I can't say enough about Stellarvue's customer service.

I tried it yesterday with eyepieces only. Collimation is perfect and the views with my ES 82 degrees 30mm eyepiece were astonishing despite the moon. And it's so incredible to see pinpoint bright stars without any CA. Even the moon had almost none at all. Very impressed.

For now it will be piggy-backed on my LX200 fork mount, but I think I can see a CEM (as Paul calls them) in the near future. Not sure if it will be the 25 or 60. Depends on the cost of the 60.

Needless to say, I can't wait to attach my SBIG on it and start imaging. Weather has not been good here for the last little while except for last night, but the moon was too bright for my taste. My next target: M42... Never had the opportunity to image it with a wider-field telescope. I didn't get a flattener with it, I'll have to see if I need it or not.

Anyway, I attached a few pictures for all of you looking for quality refractors.

Dave, getting a CCD first really worked well for me... That's what I would recommend.

    Hi,

Thank you for your little review so far.
I just checked in on your Smugmug page - and I must say you do have some very, very impressive images there.
Will be interesting to see how the new scope behave and compares to your current Skywatcher.
Congrats on a new good scope - clear skies :-)
