I have made a very nice sight tube out of a black 35 mm plastic film canister by cutting off the little raised edge on the end where the cap goes and drilling a 1/8 inch hole dead center in the bottom, this makes a very nice and accurate peep site for a 1.25 focuser tube. I have also made a longer site tube out of an aluminum heat roller from a Kyocera Copy machine, I used several black 35 mm film canisters with the bottoms and tops cut off as sleeves around the aluminum heat roller to make it the correct diameter for a 1.25 focuser tube.I have also made a Chesire Site tube out of the same aluminum heat roller. You can usually pick up one of these heat rollers from your local Kyocera Mita dealer they usually just throw the old ones they replace in copy machines away. They are very easy to cut with a standard hacksaw and I usually can make 2 or 3 sit tubes and chesire's out of one heat roller.
Give it a try.

Check out this web page, then hit the "DIY projects" link near the bottom. Its one of the best discussions on the topic I've found.

In the DIY page, keep going till you get to the "THE DIY section:" heading. Its almost half way down.
