    Radio telescopes have a larger coverage area of the sky (for an individual telescope). They also do not depend on clear skies for their use (some radio signals get through cloud cover pretty easily).

    A disadvantage is that the resolution of single radio telescopes is much poorer than optical telescopes. Arrays of radio telescopes, however, can be used to increase the resolution of the array. This process is called interferometry.

    We can gather data about objects that would not be visable because of dust or atmospheric conditions, such as the center of our galaxy.
