Question Looking for sup 250$(CND) astrophotography setup

Hello, my fellow night sky lovers!

I've taken a few photos of star trails and some of part of the milky way with my Nikon D5500(was a gift) and I fell in love with just how amazingly beautiful the night sky really is. I've seen some photos of nebulas, star clusters and galaxies and it just made me want to photograph them. I know with my tight budget being sub 250$(CND) it makes it very hard to get any good photos of these but I'd be happy with taking photos of plants if you don't think it's possible to take photos of galaxies but it would be really amazing if I could.

I've been reading up on some of the other forms on this website and it seems to be that altho reflectors have amazing specks for their price, they are not suitable for clear images. So it would seem I should get a refactor for astrophotography?

I've been looking into what astrophotography setup I could get to photograph deep sky objects under 250$(CND) and I would like to get your thoughts and ideas as I have little to no idea what I am doing. I have a really good tripod and a Nikon D5500, so I think I would need an equatorial mount or an equatorial tripod, a camera adaptor, a magnifying...thingy? (before the image goes into my camera), and a telescope.

I've been looking at some Celestron Refactors like this one: (I live in Canada hence the more expensive prices and the .ca)
    Celestron PowerSeeker 70EQ Telescope

along with this for moving the EQ Tripod:

Celestron 93514 Motor Drive for EQ AstroMasters and PowerSeekers (Black)

    Both on amazon.ca

This is what I have so far so any ideas or suggestions (be that a whole new setup idea or single components) would be much appreciated!

    Thank you in advance!

    Welcome to the forum!!

As you probably are finding out, AP can be a VERY expensive pursuit. But you can do some very good work on a very limited budget.

First thing you need to know is that the most important piece of equipment (most important by FAR) is the mount. It is not the scope and I suggest you forget about the scope right now. Just get a tracking equatorial mount and a dovetail bar to attach your DSLR and start taking wide field shots. These light weight mounts are not up to the task of imaging through a scope (more than the weight has to be considered as imaging at longer focal lengths becomes more challenging as well), but they can handle a DSLR alone quite well.

Starting this way is much easier and lots of impressive work can be done all while you are learning and preparing for a more involved set up.

Something like this can also get you started imaging with just the camera: https://www.astrobuysell.com/propview.php?view=47551
Nightscape and widefield imaging is a good place to learn the camera/ mount/ sky while deciding if you want to spend the money as AP can get quite expensive.

Keep an eye on the ads on this site as there are occasionally good deals.

I don't know if it is available in Canada but here in the USA... craigslist can be a great resource. I have bought gear on it and so have buddies. Easy to get excellent working condition gear for half of new price.

This is such a good idea, ive never thought of it before.
It makes perfect sense, take a swim before you dive into the kiddy pool, it seems a lot more afordable and a great way to see if I enjoy AP.

Thank you for sharing some of your expertise with me

You can use this setup with camera only initially and add a small scope later. My setup in photo is shown with SkyProdigy mount and an 80mm F7.5 Refractor. The Hand Controller may need to have different software downloaded to access equatorial mode of operation (easy to do). I constructed an adapter plate out of wood with only a handsaw and drill as an interface between mount and tripod.
