Yep. I gave my advice. The AVX won't cut it and the EQ6 is overkill so the HEQ5 is just right. "I know becoz I dun tried it."

I'm hearing you, not_Fritz, but there were some other guys on CN who said they tried both and the AVX had less vibrations. So since the opinions were so controversial on the topic, I opted for the AVX because it comes in a set for less $$ and the dealer will fine tune it for me. I also liked the idea of the all-star polar alignment.
Anyways, I will let you know how it worked.

    Hi bpm990d, and All,

Since I decided in favor of the C9.25, I have been contemplating about what eyepieces to get while waiting for the scope to arrive. I only have a few Plossls and an Ortho, so I need more EPs.

I have been eyeballing the Baader Hyperion and Morpheus series and read a few reviews about their performances. Evidently, the Morpheus series is better (and have twice the price where I live). However, all comparisons I read concerned fast scopes, and I am not convinced about any significant difference between them when paired with an SCT.

Since you own many EPs from both series and also own a C9.25, could you please tell a bit about the differences in visual performance (if any) of the two series in the 9-17 mm range (AFOV aside)?

I would also appreciate anyone else's comment.

    Regards,
    Stewe

I've used my 21, 17 & 13 Hyperions in my 9.25. They seemed to work well. I have a 10mm, but I can't remember if I have used it or not. I've also used my 17.5 and I think I used my 9mm Morpheus. They also worked great.

I'm not super fussy on eyepieces but having a decent FOV & comfort (eye relief and eye box makes for ease of use) are the most important for me. I think the Morpheus are better but you don't get the longer focal lengths with them. They top out at 17.5mm. You can pick up Hyperions used for $100 here in the states. I think they sell new for $145.

If you have the money, go for the Morpheus. I do think they are better EPs, but there is nothing wrong with the Hyperions.

Thanks a lot for your comments, bpm990d!
I think I will get the 17mm and 21mm Hyperions plus the fine tuning rings, which will give me 8 different focal lengths between 9.2mm and 32.2mm with good eye relief. Plus I have a 7mm Vixen Ortho for planets on nights with great seeing. I will probably add the 36mm aspheric and they will cover everything I need for a good start.

    Clear skies!

I think you will be happy with the Hyperions, but the one drawback is if you ever get a fast Newtonian or refractor. The performance of the Hyperions in the fast refractor is not too good, in the fast Newt they are ATROCIOUS.

Thanks for the caveat, Ozman13. I will likely not get a fast Newtonian anytime soon because of the need for mobility. If I'll ever live in a dark place with my own backyard, I will definitely put my hands on a gigantic Dob, and then I will also get some fancy Naglers.

My Orion Xt8i has a f5.9 mirror and the Hyperions seemed to work ok in that scope. I will ad the caveat that I'm not a particularly finicky observer when it comes to aberrations but I have noticed that my 31mm Baader shows little seagulls at the edge of the FOV. I'm not sure that I see them with the shorter focal lengths.
