Default My Orion Giant View 25x100 Binoculars Arrived Today And I will Be Keeping Them

I am really happy with these binoculars. I did a side by side test with the Oberwerk LW 15x70 binoculars. The Giant View showed stars about 5 percent sharper/tighter than the Oberwerk. Perhaps the Giant View would have much more noticeable sharper stars, if the magnification was not so high. The Giant View shows a brighter view than the Oberwerk. The Oberwerk have an internal stop/aperture of 64mm divided by 15 equals a 4.2mm exit pupil. The Giant View have a 4mm exit pupil, but 100mm aperture. Thus, lots more light. It was partly cloudy this evening. The Giant View was able to pull stars through light cloud cover into focus. The lenses are powerful. Giant View edge distortion is about 10 percent, maybe less. It really is not that noticeable. Kinda hard to tell.

The Orion Paragon Hd-F2 Heavy Duty tripod got the job done. However, I could not move the binoculars freely vertically. I had to lock it at a desired level. The Giant View weigh close to eleven pounds. I would just move the tripod legs in and out for height changes. The tripod can go high enough for me to enjoy views at a 11/1 o'clock angle. The tripod screw that hold the binoculars in place, will have to be tighten every so often. However, I will keep the Orion Paragon tripod for a 10x50 and 7x35 combo on a cross bar. Also, the Orion Paragon can be used for air travel with the Giant View. To bring out the full joy potential of the Giant View 25x100 binoculars, a parallelogram mount and tripod is a must. I will order the combo often recommend by Ozman13.

    Congratulations.
You will find that the parallel mount will greatly improve your experience. I would also suggest getting a zero gravity chair to go with the parallel mount. It will save you from having to crank your neck to view near the zenith.
Have fun with your new toy. I think that you'll enjoy it.

Congratulations on the big binoculars you will have a lot of fun using them! I have the Orion Paragon tripod and I agree that they can’t handle the heavy weight of the 25x100’s.

Congrats. Since acquiring my own 25x100 binos, they have been my most used instrument. Enjoy!
