    Finished OTA

The main tube is painted, and the inside is blackened with flat black primer. I reconstructed the OTA by placing the primary mirror cell (indexed for easy collimation), reattached the secondary, located the Meade focuser, and placed the end-cap.

Then I did a quick recollimation, which went very smoothly. I'm getting some nice views with it just cradling in my arms and checking out the moon from the backyard.

With respect to colour -> early Tasco 11TR's sported basic white, so that's what I went with. Sedate and boring, I know. I can change it anytime I suppose.

Personally, I kind of like it. . (EDIT: It already has a battle scar from removing the tape over the name plate, some white paint came with it).

Here are some images for you who have had the fortitude to stay with me, ha ha:

Looks very nice, Ian! You've gone some great work here.

I've got an old C80 that I've been pondering on repainting. I am wavering between candy apple red and John Deere green. I figure some toy tractor wheels for focuser knobs would be fun if I went with the green.

Beautiful work on restoring the 11TR, Ian!

Just recently picked up the smaller version of this scope, a Tasco 3TR:

I would love to see that. I went with JD green on my old truck, and it works for me.

Thanks Steve. This scope has a couple, free of charge.

I could tear it down again and redo it to get it perfect, but my finder scope project beckons.... ha ha

    Completed 11TR

I spent some time today finished off a bunch of small detail jobs to complete the scope. I replaced a number of stripped #6 bolts, and attached a cheap laser optical sight that was left over from another small scope purchase for parts.

I build a small triangle tray to complete the tripod. Its made from some birch plywood that I had... I didn't paint it yet.

Placed the OTA in its original mount and took a few images in the sun room.

Here she is in all her 80's glory. The mount is OK, a little shaky... but I'm planning a dobsonian mount.

Enjoy, and thanks for reading to the bottom.

    Thanks Bryan!

I am pretty happy with how it turned out.

This poor little scope was such a mess when I found it... it was really beaten on hard. The best part now is the focuser, which is so much nicer than the stocker. With that TV eyepiece you see I the pic I was getting some nice views this evening. It actually works!

    Welcome back Gabby!

Thanks. In the first image you can see the drill I used to set up the mount for the little laser sight. I was impatient to finish it so I just did that last step in the sunroom.
