    Dobsonian or Alt/Az twilight 2?

Of course, my first thought is that this should be on a Dobsonian-style mount.

    However....

I'm now toying with the idea of mounting this thing on a twilight 2, using the existing clamshell modified with a vixen style bar... not sure if anyone's tried it, but this little scope is quite light, so it might work.

Good plan for the 11TE! Do you have any build photos or an isolated image of the final product of your dobs mount? Did you use semi-circle style bearings? I'm very interested in this plan. Mark (TheFatKitty) did the very same thing.

As for the Meade focuser, its a step up from the original, and is an aluminum body and stainless R/P construction. Its smoother than the stocker, should be able to support a DSLR, and accepts a 1.25" EPs without any adaptors. I have some nice old 23 mm and 30 mm EPs as well (Nikon, Olympus and Zeiss, etc) that will require an adaptor.

As this reflector is relatively slow (F 7.9), I think a wide variety of EP's will work, and it might be good for planetary views.

    Kind regards,
    Ian
Sorry no build photos only the completed unit for AZ bearing an old CDC or an old LP record will work with furniture pads etc , the Alt I cut out the hole and used the cut out with a plastic surround from a container worked well , cant upload image sorry

No worries Richard. I found something quite useful on Stellafane, which complements Mark's input (theFatKitty).

Rumour is that it may be soon (weeks?), when Gus, the admin person can get around to it.

I simply use Onedrive.com, set up an account, upload my images, and post my embedded code for those pics between [IMG][/IMG]. Super easy!

    Thank you, Mark.
Your very welcome buddy, though methinks you're miles ahead of me I got caught up tonight with what you've done; glad the focuser worked with cutting the tube a bit for moving up the mirror. Putting that 4.5" on a Twilight mount would be a great idea!

BTW, I noticed the yellow BC Rich in one of your pictures; I have the same in black. One day I might be able to even play it well...

Nice to get caught up with everything, very tired lately.

TTYL and hope it all works out!

Most welcome Mark. That BC Rich is an 1987 USA (California)-made rarity, with a real Floyd Rose whammy bar, they have such nice flat necks.

I hope you are feeling OK.

    Finder

I decided to build a dobsonian mount for this scope.

I am waiting for some parts, and so I thought I'd get going on a possible finder. I really like the lit reticle sights (eg, Telrad) for dobs - they do the job. However I had a broken set of Pentax binos and some cheap Taymors (50 mm) that had a lens cell that was threaded and didn't require any fancy jewellers spanner to remove.

Other parts: - Barlow tube from late 60's Sears scope.
    - .965" diagonal from same Sears scope
    - reticle from small finder on that same scope.

I mocked up the Taymor 50mm objective. It seems to have a f.l. of somewhere near 180 mm. I was able to get this contraption to focus on Sirius (hey a clear night!) and the moon. The views are surprisingly decent.

I also have found a 35mm objective from a different set of binoculars and mounted it in some ABS pipe.

Anyway, please have a look! The tough part will be in mounting this and making it adjustable.
