Default how do you mount a Celestron Onyx 80ED ?

I bought this beautiful Celestron Onyx 80ED scope but it come with a 1/4" type camera mount..I do have a Losmandy cg11 but I dont think the piggyback camera mount that attaches to the rear cell part of the tube is strong enough to the scope and a camera attached..my c11 does have a top rail that it use for added weights.....any thoughts on how to mount this...it wish it had a better mount system ,maybe thats why they dont make it anymore....Wayne...

btw I'm new to this Forum hay all!

Must've been a bit shaky on a 1/4" mount as well at that weight. Especially with the camera added.
Have you tried to get scope rings for it?
You could possibly have some made up too if it was imperative you mount the scope piggy back style

I have the same scope - been using it piggyback mounted on a Los DTP widefield and guiding. You have some choices - finding clamp rings (like these from Orion) or 3-point rings - Astronomics and ADM make ring to Los DTP adaptors for the rings-to-DTP. For imaging I didn't want to use 3-point rings or clamp rings so I madw a wood block and used some long SS hose clamps.

hope that helps. Be interested in what you think of the Onyx -some folks dislike the focuser but I've had no issues with it. BTW - that is what is riding above the refractor in my sigline image below !

I'm cheap and I do not image so I went with a inexpensive Orion Short tube 80 pippybacked on my CPC1100 which I use exclusively on open clusters...

I do use the Orion 3 point rings and a ADM rail on top of the OTA..
I also run Starizonia counterweights ...now the counter weights are only used on the bottom...before I piggybacked the scope I had counterweights mounted both top and bottom...

I measured the 80mm scope's mounting adapter and the dove tail is 1 3/4" wide ( has a mounting hole inside that @ 1/4" for a camera tripod.the rail on the top of my c11 is 3/4" wide so I would need some kind of adapter with a side tightening nut .........
