    Default New Baader Hyperion

    Hi All:

Finally got tired of looking through the tiny peep hole of the 10mm Plossl that came with my Skywatcher 254N. It is an adequate eyepiece with decent light transmission and good clarity. However, the small exit lens and very short eye relief got me to order an 8mm Hyperion.

I placed my order on Wed 5/10 with Agenaastro and to my pleasant surprize, it arrived on Fri. 5/12. Just in time for the only clear night this week.

It has a huge exit lens, and great eye relief. This alone makes it much more comfortable to use. The AFOV is actually slightly larger than the 10mm Plossl and with 150x magnification as compared to the Plossl's 120x. Object were significantly brighter in the Hyperion. There is also very little distortion right to the edge of the FOV.

Needless to say, it is a nice upgrade.

Indeed, I bought the 17mm Hyperion first to try it out and fell in love with them. Now I have the 3.5mm, 5mm, 8mm, 13mm, 17mm, 21mm & 24mm and looking at getting the Aspheric ones this summer.
