    Default How to remake eyepiece

    Hi!

This is not related to astronomy, but maybe someone can help me I have spotting scope i use for my archery needs. But it has that straight eyepiece that is not very convenient. I was thinking about making something that i can put on existing eyepiece so that it becomes 'angled'. I don't have any experience with making optics. Maybe someone got some idea?

    Thanks!
    Andrew

    Thanks Hernando!

But do i have to take out the eyepiece from the scope and use the prism between scope and eyepiece? Unfortunately that won't work, the scope is sealed and i can't do it if i don't want to use a saw

Can you tell us what scope you have, so we can see it? Or post a picture. You may have to make a number of posts to be allowed to post a pic.

As suggested by Pierre, posting the scope model and/or pic will help a lot. And yes, the prism goes between the scope and the eyepiece. Try to find out if you can unscrew the eyepiece from the scope. Is it a zoom-able type of eyepiece (where you can change the magnification by turning around the eyepiece barrel)?

    Best,

    Hernando

No problem, Rurke. However, other than introducing me to a chain of optics I hadn't seen before, it didn't help me help you solve your problem. Newtonian, trademarked, eh? Very interesting.

The optics must form the image within the eyepiece at the "plane of least confusion", (I believe it is called). I opine that even if you did figure out how to remove the fixed zoom eyepiece, (is that an oxymoron?), found the correct adaptors, and succeeded in fitting a 45 deg diagonal, you would probably find that the optical chain would have been lengthened such that focus could not be achieved.

Others may opine differently, of course.
