    Default Meade 5000 EP question

I'm curious, I seem to see a lot of used Meade series 5000 EP's for sale periodically. What has been the experience of those that have had them? I have a 6" achromat f/8 refractor, and a 10" celestron f4.7 reflector. I have not had the opportunity to try them out. None of the people I regularly observe with have any. How do they compare to the 4000 series?

Criterion (RV-6) 6" reflector, Celestron 10" reflector (dobsonian), Meade 2080 (8" SCT), Orion 120 mm refractor, Orion ST-80 refractor, many binos, Meade 12x50, Barska 15x70, Visioner 20x80, Celestron 25x100

I have never used them, but folks say they are very nice eps. They are quite big though. From what I've heard they are better than the 4000. I've never used either so first hand I don't know. Someone should be along with some better info. Cheers.

I have owned exactly ONE 5000 super Plossel 1.25 inch eyepiece and I sold it after a short period of time... I just did not like it very much but for the life of me I really can not remember what I did not like about the darn thing... so you have to take my opinion of this one single eyepiece with a grain of salt... The only 4000 series eyepiece I owned (and still do) is a 40 mm which gets a lot of use in my small refractor ...

I just picked up a 24 and 34 mm 5000 SWA on sale last month and I'm very impressed with them .. Not quite as good as my Panoptics' or XWs' in my SCTs' but at less then 1/3 the price of the "good stuff" I'm very happy with them..

    Bob G..

CPC1100 housed in a slotted domed observatory (Exploradome) 4 and 5 inch refractors for use from the lawn, a 8" Sct (NS 8i) for star parties...
I Hate the winter so I use heated Motorcycle clothing to stay warm while observing in winter
Retired, also have 2 other hobbies
    1. tinker with older Corvettes (6 in garage)
    2. make a heck of a lot of sawdust in my wood shop.
