    Default owl astronomy

Has anyone used an owl eye piece, there prices are not to bad,and there manufacturing facilities are 20mins from my house and walk in sales are welcome.I'm thinking of there barlow,1.25 fully malti-coated blackened edges for 20$.I would like to buy a brand name but being fully unemployed puts a damper on things.I 'm hopping there quality is good because its a local company for me,buying us made and local manufacturing is important to me, heres ther site www.owlastronomy.comThanks for any input...speedfreak.

Default 2" 2x ED Barlow from Owl Astronomy ...

... actually ... I just got one of their 2" 2x ED Barlows but the weather had not been good enough to try it out yet ... much less write a review ... I'll say this though ... nice well-built and just having given it the "once-over" in daylight I can find no flaws or aberration ... it shipped in a heavy cardboard outer box, inner "shelf box", bolt case, wrap of foam, and then the eyepiece ... vey well packaged indeed ... and with a bolt case (nice touch) ... the screws for the 2"-1.25" adapter and EP holder fit nicely into the divided EP hole cover ... and the 2" "business end" also comes with a cover ... brass bands for holding both 1.25" and 2" format EPs ... threaded for 2" filters ...

... the 2" EP holder and "tube" that holds the optics unscrews ... and (THIS IS UNCONFIRMED AS YET) it looks like the threads (male on the tube end) might fit a T-adapter ... as I said ... I can't find any of my T adapters, but it looks pretty close ...

Speedy ... next time you drop in you might ask them it that is, in fact, true ... would ba a pretty kewl feature ... if not, ask them if they plan on making an adapter? ...

... as I mentioned ... I have not had the chance yet to actually "first light" the Barlow ... but I am eagerly looking forward to doing so ...

... I'm also looking forward to your reviews Speedy ... especially since you have such close proximity and access to the company ...

I bought a couple of Plossls from them, as well as a prism diagonal and a Barlow. All seem to be nicely made and good value for money. Owl claim the same eps are sold at a higher price with someone else´s logo on. I don´t dispute it.

    Two-point post here ...

Point one and two ... here is my/our first "test" of Owl Astronomy and their customer service ... I am pretty confident they will come through with flying colors ... here's the drill, and the interesting "thing" (point two) I learned (maybe) about William Optics ...

... I ordered a set of William Optics Binoviewers from Owl Astronomy last week, along with the adapter (for use later on) and got the e-mail today that "we are out of stock and can't get the item unless you order a specific "set" that includes 20mm EPs and a case (for only about $14.00 more, but that ain't the point) ... it's a nice set, mind you, and a better "deal" ... so point one is shop for the complete set and not the individual pieces, and make sure they are IN STOCK before you pay for them ... Owl didn't indicate how much longer it would take to get them, much less how much longer to get them to me (no worries, already ordered the same set from Adorama and got the confirmation on shipping dates) ... anyway ... on to point two ...

... turns out, according to the e-mail, that Williams Optics no longer has a US store/supply house other than their vendors) ... anyone got any feedback on that?? ...

... didn't want to start a new thread about William Optics ...

... yeah ... that's what I thought as well ... their site is humming right along ... that's what got me wondering ...

... in fact ... that price on their website is only a few dollars more than what I got the Binoviewer set for ...

... well howdy-doodie ... Owl done good ... applied my monies to some other equipment that I had been wanting in addition to what I had ordered ...

... swapped e-mails with Tom at Owl Astronomy and he said that William Optics has indeed pulled their support team in the US, so for now we must rely on the vendors for support ... Tom indicated that his understanding is that William Optics will have an "official" support team back in the US hopefully by June ...

    ... hth ... clear skies ...
