    Default Vixen HR 3.4mm

Just an FYI. I noticed that the new Vixen 3.4mm HR EP is on the way, continuing the line of 1.6, 2 & 2.4 already available. I've never used one myself, but have seen them discussed here from time to time. Thought ya might like to know.

Interesting EP line, that's for sure. Are you considering one?

It would be great for about 264x with my 150mm Newtonian for lunar viewing. It would probably be pretty good for high power planetary viewing on short tube refractors as well.

    IMG_20170418_160928.jpg

The nearest eyepiece I have to that would be a 3.2mm BST StarGuider.

The 3.4 would give me 823.5x in my 1100! I think I would need to leave the atmosphere to pull that off. I do have the 2.5 & 3.5 Naglers, but they rarely see use except for some wide lunar viewing in the fracs.

Thanks for the news. It's a very interesting eyepiece series. Something to consider if I move to steadier air.....

I like the "designed" eye relief in the specs: "Xmm". Hmmm... I wonder how you design for that?

Seriously though, it looks like it would be a nice eyepiece in the right scope, as long as "X" is say 15-20mm for those of us wearing glasses.
It isn't cheap though! For those who don't need glasses at the eyepiece, you can get a 4mm Fujiyama HD Ortho for about 1/3 of the price...

The previous releases in this series have a stated ER of 10mm. I would guess that this one would follow closely to the design. But yes, you are absolutely correct on the Ortho statement, and also my choice in this scenario. However I can solidly state that the 4mm Ortho doesn't offer 10mm ER.

With uncertainty? Marking a spot? That's where the treasure's buried, matey. ARRRgh!

Seriously though, it looks like it would be a nice eyepiece in the right scope, as long as "X" is say 15-20mm for those of us wearing glasses.
Well the 2.4 has 10mm eye relief which isn't short but also isn't quite long enough for glasses wearers.

It isn't cheap though! For those who don't need glasses at the eyepiece, you can get a 4mm Fujiyama HD Ortho for about 1/3 of the price...
And I've got mine. Seeing conditions just aren't justifying that power from this location....
