Default Best eye piece for my Celestron CPC 800 gps xlt

Hi everyone. I recently started to sky gaze again after a 5 year break. I have updated my celestron firmware. I currently have the celestron eyepiece kit
Its ok but viewing the m31 last night was disappointing. There was a half moon. Perhaps I was expecting too much. I could just make out it was m31 as a faint smudge. I was wondering if the Baader Hyperion Full Eyepiece Set is worth getting for my celestron with a 1.25" or T2 to 2" Expansion Adapter? My interests are Galaxies, star clusters and planets. I have had views of star clusters and good views of planets, when i slewed to Nebula a few times but couldn't see anything.

    Thanks Les

Well we really need to know what scope you are using before we can make any kind of recommendation. I also would suggest buying EPs one (or two at most) at a time instead of buying an entire line at once. The Hyperions will work well with SCTs or Maks, not well with Fast Newtonians, and will vary with refractors depending on the speed and focal length.

Light pollution, even from the moon, will wash out galactic detail quickly and severely dampen most nebulae.

Duh I read the post and didn't even pay attention to the title.

Yes the Hyperions will work well in the SCT. They do seem a little soft to me though even in the forgiving SCT. I sold my Hyperions off in favor of the ES lines.

Best eyepiece yields very subjective answers. I have one of the same scopes as yours. Personally I don't believe in a one line collection instead I try to cheery pick eyepieces individually. From about 10mm up work well in your scope. My favorites for the C8 are 10mm Pentax XW, Delos 14, Nagler 22, Panoptic 35. Many prefer the Nagler 31 to the Panoptic 35 for wide field viewing. Below ~10mm is to much for most nights and as a result is seldom used in this scope.

I will give the set a miss for now. I had my eye on a Baader Hyperion 21mm Eyepiece, good reviews. There's so many to choose from.

    Thanks for your replies

Your scope is not well suited to extremely wide field objects like M31. M31 is best viewed through scope that handles wide fields. It's about 6 times the size of a full Moon. I used to have a C9.25 and found that although the Baaders were just fine that Panoptics and UO Wide Field Konigs were a bit more contrasty. Unfortunately UO Wide Field Konigs aren't available any longer and my daughter requisitioned mine! I'm currently looking at GSO Superviews which seem to be the same or similar.
