Default Zoom: Meade, Celestron or Agena

I know the Zoom eyepiece is not for everyone.

    I don't have one.

I think is a practical item for a grab-n-go kit, so, I'm planning to buy one.

In a 2009 post by Carlos_dfc (Zoom Eyepieces - A direct comparison.) found the next information:

    "Celestron 8-24mm
    Price - £76
    Optics - 85%
    AFOV - 40°-60°
    Positive - Good Colour rendition
    Negative - Prominent internal reflections

    Meade series 4000 8-24mm
    Price - £126
    Optics - 93%
    AFOV - 40°-55°
Positive - Excellent Deep Sky views
    Negative - Some internal reflections"

So, based in this info, from 9 years ago, the Meade 8-24 Zoom, looks like a better option than the Celestron.

I know there are High End Zooms like the Baader, Nikon, Pentax, etc., but for the moment I'm not interested in these ones.

Today, 8-24 Zoom eyepieces from Agena, Celestron and Meade cost the same around $65.

There is a cheaper 7-21 Zoom eyepiece from Agena for around $45

Please, share with me your experience with any of these "Standard Zooms" eyepieces.

The Meade is by far superior to the Celestron above.

The Meade is better from what I've seen.

But I like the Vixen even better and better still is the Baader that you've ruled out. Just pointing out the Vixen as it is a little less than the Baader and has design heritage from the well regarded fixed focal length Vixen LV eyepieces.

I have the Celestron version, probably all made in the same factory. I use it for the fast grab an go. I would not sell it for twice the price, it works great and I have no problems with any internal reflections. The zoom and a 2x barlow will keep me happy for the fast times. I probably have seen more through my zoom than any FL lens. Someday I am going to buy a Baader zoom and see if I personally can see the big difference everyone raves about. But, for me right now, the Celestron works great. Just my .2 cents worth.

If the budget allows you to save & wait the Baader is a darn good zoom & EP.
    Moving on.......

These are budget zooms. I don't believe they are made on the same factory, but performance will likely be very similar. Just from my experience with brands I would go with Meade.
