Default What ever happened to the Orion Stratus 24mm EP?

One of my favorite EPs, the Orion Stratus 24mm, went missing after lending it to a friend. I also have the Stratus 17mm and 13mm, but I still miss the 24mm and have been wanting to replace it. I know that there are comparable, and even better EPs around the same price range, but I still keep looking.

I've just ordered an Orion Q70 25mm to replace it, but I'm probably going to end up with the Explore Scientific 68 degree 24mm, or maybe the 82 degree, if I can justify the cost.

I'm surprised that the Orion Stratus 24mm is no longer available. I know that there were problems with back orders, but I thought that was just because it may have been a popular EP.

    Best,
    Brian

What scope are you going to be using that Q70 with? It would be helpful to the rest of us (and you) if you would list your equipment in your signature. Upper right hand corner "SETTINGS" then lists on the left "Edit Signature" then bottom right "Save Changes"

If your scope is an SCT, Mak, or slower refractor, the Q70 will likely perform fairly well.

If your scope is a fast Newt, you will likely not care for the Q70 as they are a total mismatch optically.

Primarily, I use the Orion AstroView 120ST and XT8 Dob, but I also have a Stellarvue Night Hawk II for travel. You can see the Orion Stratus (most likely the 24mm inserted) below. I'll work on my signature.

I am not a huge fan of the Orion Stratus eyepieces I have a 8 mm which is ok (sometimes I prefer a 10 mm plosssl) I have now a 22mm Orion Lathanum that I changed from the 24 Stratus works much better in my WO 80mm F6.8 its only 65 compared to 68 AFV but much better , In RSA we cant really afford TV eyepieces

Considering those two scopes, I would suggest skipping the Q70 and going for one of the ES lines.

Which 'two scopes'? The refractors? I only use the dob for travel to dark skies, or when I do sidewalk astronomy (easier to manipulate the scope between targets). I'll most likely upgrade to a ES EP, but my local shop only carries the 82 degree EPs. I tend to get a bit lost and prefer the 68 degree. Of course, there's always mail order.

The two scopes you use primarily, the 120ST (fast f/5 achromatic refractor) and XT8 (fairly fast f/6 Newtonian reflector). The Q70 is a poor match for those two scopes.
