Default Not good news from Kokusai Kohki.

Sorry to link to a discussion on another forum, but it seems the future of the famed Kokusai Kohki Ortho EPs may be in question. For anyone debating on the purchase, it may pay to make a run on these. https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/6.../#entry8290841

    Hello all,

the KK Fujiyama orthos and the Takahashi orthos have been reported to be one and the same, just different labels.
Some vendors seem to have herded the last production batches, to generate shortage.

It certainly makes sense to grab in time several KKs for the high to maximum magnifications, so far you can live with the small FOV.

The KKs are not on my list, and I have already spent enough money on a bunch of eyepieces in 2017.

    Happy shopping the KKs,

I suspected that. I could not make a difference between a 6mm KK and a 6mm Takahashi. So I sold the Takahashi.

It certainly makes sense to grab in time several KKs for the high to maximum magnifications, so far you can live with the small FOV.
It certainly does. I have got the 6 mm and the 9 mm. I don't know why, but the 6mm and the 9mm are quite popular down here. Several experienced Dutch and Belgium observers here have at least one for planets and planetary nebula's. "Grabbing the last fotons".

Edit:Running for the last KKs is not a bad idea.

I just hope that this is temporary...... I was thinking of a second set. I guess I’ll have to think longer.

*** Official Notice*** I have NEVER heard of AliExpress before, therefore I can absolutely make no recommendations as to the validity of anything on this site. But it appears that some vendor has acquired quite a large quantity of the said EPs. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Japa...StoreLevelAB=5

Edit to add: And I'm not totally discounting the thought that they COULD be counterfeit considering certain observations ??

    Hello Frankie,

this looks like a direct trading from China, not through the vendors.
Lots of the optics can be purchased today directly from China, sometimes you save money.

Ali express is part of Alibaba, they have a large presence on this side of the planet.

There are many good bargains to be had. Although I do sometimes wonder at the quality, some of the filters are priced real low.

I used Alibaba on this side of globe for some items, such as bulk items like Led flashlights one might want for resale. Good prices yes, but one has to be very careful about quality and be leery lots of knockoffs. I find them handy for bulk pricing on things I have tested first hand only. They are just like Amazon but specialize in manufacturing for custom large orders.....

If you look at the scopes prices they look so darn good until you realize there is a minimum order of 10 or 20 at a time.
Wonder how many of these scopes are bought in bulk and re-branded in the various countries around the world?
Some of the vendors claim to be able to supply up to 10 000 per day!
