Hey! I was thinking about buying a new eyepiece for my 8" Skyline, I mainly want it for planetary viewing, maybe some nebula or galaxies. I was considering getting the Orion Expanse 6mm for $49.99 USD and the Orion 2x Short Barlow Lens for $39.99 USD. My telescope came with a 30mm Wide Field Lens, and a 9mm Plössl. If you have any recommendations for better eyepieces or a better way to go to get more detail on planets like Jupiter or Saturn, please let me know. Thanks!

    I would opt for this.

Agena 1.25" Starguider Dual ED Eyepiece - 8mm
    GSO 1.25" 2x "Shorty" Achromatic Barlow Lens # GS2BL

The 30mm you have is not bad, the 9mm not so great. This 8mm will replace the 9mm. The Barlow has a bottom element that comes off and can be threaded onto an EP for 1.5x as well. This gives you the 6mm you want and 4mm for those rare occasions when you can push the power that far. At some point I would also add one of these depending on your taste.

Agena 1.25" Starguider Dual ED Eyepiece - 18mm
Agena 1.25" Starguider Dual ED Eyepiece - 25mm

These EPs are a step above the Expanses and perform quite well in your scope.

Thumbs up Re: Need help with a purchase or two

Although I have never tried the Agena Dual ED eyepieces the Ozman recommends, I highly recommend and respect his advice about these eyepieces for the price! They sound great!

I own the 9mm Expanse and I love the 66 degrees it shows me but it also suffers from the kidney bean effect! Once you get past that, I really enjoy the views. But based on the Ozman's recommendation, my next EP purchase will be the Agena Dual ED's.
