    Default 5 X barlow

Anyone try this barlow, it's advertised as a 3 element APO, never heard of the company. Gets great reviews and was on sale for $15. I'm sure it not as good as the $200 ones but anyone try it?

Haven't tried that Barlow but I have heard some bad things about it, that along with the price would cause me to be leery.

It got good reviews om amazon, would it even be useful with a 6in x 750mm, F5 for use with neximage 5, or will it be too much magnification. Celestron doesn't provide the ep size equivalent.

You can not put much trust in these customer reviews, most are made by inexperienced users that have no basis to form a pertinent opinion and the vendors have a goal of selling their product. If there were a member here who had good things to report about imaging with this Barlow, I would give credence to that.

I also believe it would create too long of a focal length to give a good image. If you are wanting to image planets with the scope, I would look for a reputable 3x Barlow.

Is it focal length the problem or magnification? The website describes useful magnification, I'm assuming this matters for a camera as well?

I would not put much credence in what is written there. If you pay attention to the way it is worded, the first line is about a 2x barlow and they have probably just substituted the 5x into the text.

When I speak of useful mag I was refer to the telescope I own it is 354, with a 5x it is over double the max. I just found a 5x Orion for 125US on amazon.com, still searching looking for a 3x for a good price. I'd like to capture some of the smaller planets like mars and more distant like Saturn. Thinking the same rules apply to a camera? Not sure how the Neximage came would fair. Is there a disadvantage to stacking barlows I have 2 2x barlows already.

I noticed the narrative in the ad after you mentioned it.

I've never been able to use anything over a 3x with great results. I even had a very expensive 300 dollar TV Powermate once and sold it right quick. The skies are just never that clear. Now if I live on a mountain in Chili perhaps...;-)

I have used a 3x barlow for planetary imaging. I found it very hard to work with.

Narrow field of view, extremely tight range of focus.

It works great once it is dialed in. But its not easy. Even when it is 'dialed in' the conditions need to be very good. You can see it 'swim' in the preview.

I can only imagine a 5x would be twice as difficult.
