Default So, Orion sent me a new catalog yesterday..

And I'm flipping through when suddenly I notice OOOOOOOOoooooo!!!! Orion has new EP's for 2017!!!!!

    Orion LHD 80-Degree Lanthanum Ultra-Wide 1.25"/2" Eyepieces

I don't what I'm excited about, really, but I'm thinking how dare Orion release new EP's especially in focal lengths that would be next on my "to get" list, and not only that but put the 14mm in a 2" barrel to boot, and the red bands are kinda sexy, like a string bikini on an EP...

Does anyone recognize these as perhaps a rebrand of something else? Because I'd like to get some opinions on these.

There's not much danger when you know day to day what happens with little or no variation:

    Mail comes in...

    Money goes out.

You DEFINITELY need new eyepieces when you are seeing red string bikinis on the catalogue page items. The current 82 AFOV degree offerings are between seven and twenty year old designs, so a rethink of this market niche is overdue. The aging clientele needs greater eye relief especially at the shorter focal lengths, and these guys will fill the bill if they can deliver equal or better performance than the existing models. The ES 92 degree AFOV eyepieces already fill the up scale market from these Orions by offering greater eye relief than the 100 degree AFOV products. Orion does not design or build their own eyepieces, so I am sure you will soon these items dancing across your screen, dressed in many other colored bikinis.

I've yet to find anything similar in my travels, though it was pointed out in that other astronomy forum that apparently GSO also has a new line of LER EP's launching this month. They have no details on their website, though I expect if they were Lanthanmummum it would have said so. This price point doesn't exactly evoke GSO to me though. I could be wrong about that.
