Default Please help me choose my eyepieces

So i have 2 telescopes one being a 80mm ED refractor 555 focal length with a F7 focal ratio and the other being a 127 Mak 1500 focal length with a F12 focal ratio. I have 2 eyepieces at the minute a 4mm Skywatcher Planetary UWA 58° and a 25mm Celestron X-Cel LX but im going to be exchanging them at my local store tomorrow and trying to get 3 eyepieces to suit both of my telescopes but with the difference in focal ratios i dont know what would work best with both. The 4mm will be pushing the 127 mak but ok on the 80 refractor i just want to get a little set i can use with both.

The 80mm ED is mainly going to be used for AP at one stage and wide field viewing. Where as the 127 Mak is for lunar and planetary viewing but also DSO viewing with the bigger aperture as i have bought a 0.5x focal reducer for it. I think i will keep the 25mm for both of them but the 4mm will be exchanged and i will be getting 2 more maybe a 7mm for both but dont know which other

Personally, I wouldn't invest just yet in a 4mm eyepiece.

Obviously the difference in focal ratio is pretty vast. But, if you concentrate on your reasoning that the 80mm will be used for wide-field then you don't need to cater for an EP that's going to give high power for this.

The 24mm ES68 is an excellent eyepiece. In fact one of my most used and suits all the scopes I have. This would give you pretty much the max FOV possible using 1.25" hardware. Over 3 degrees true field with the 80mm and mid-power for the f/15.

Then an eyepiece around 14 - 16mm range for high power (pretty much the max of the time given our sky) with the mak and mid-power for the 80mm.

When in doubt something in the 25mm and 9mm range will always work to get started.
If you get a good barlow with a removable lower lens you have the potential to have a 25, 17, 12.5, 9, 6 and 4.5 focal lengths with just 2 eyepieces and the barlow.
The 6mm will be the high end for the 127mm and the 4.5mm would be at the high end for the 80mm

The weakest link in the optical chain is the large nut located directly behind the eyepiece/ camera. - Gabrielle
Ya gotta keep this Apo/Achro thing in some balance of perspective. Apos are awesome, but long focus Achros aren't that far behind them - Siriusandthepup (CN)
