    Default Sterling Eyepiece

So, what is everyone's opinion on the Sterling Plossls. STERLING SERIES PLOSSL EYEPIECES 1.25'' & 2''

I am considering purchasing a few of them to use in my scopes when my nieces are over and want to use the scope. This way I do not have to worry about my "better" eyepieces. Also I can use them in my 6" newt when I am using the baader or ES in the Dobs. Yes I do get more then one telescope out at a time :-p Don't we all?

Or would it be better to go with something more generic like the cheap Goskys or Svbonys.

I think the Sterling Plossles are some of the best out there. The 25mm, if you can find one, is really outstanding. The 20, 17, and 12.5 are also very good. I have also had fun with the 6 and 4mm, but those are really outside the good focal length range of Plossles. I prefer these to any other particular brand, including Televue, that I have tried. Their only weakness, for my tastes, is the rather odd selection of focal lengths and the wide gap between the 12.5 and 6mm, which for me is a critical range.

Sterling Plossls are supposed to be really good, never tried them but believe those who have and say they're among the best Plossls, and I've had several good dealings with SmartAstronomy before. But SmartAstronomy appears to be out of stock on all but the 4 and 6mm. If the Add to Cart button is missing from a page on their website, it generally means they don't have it.

However, IIRC the Sterlings are also the same as the Astro Tech High Grade Plossls at Astronomics, which appear to have some in stock.

Ah the Astro Tech are the same as the Sterling, I did not know that. Thank you for that info stargazer. I just would hate to have the ES or the Baader with finger prints all over the lenses, or dropped. It wouldn't hurt my feelings to much for that to happen to something in the price range of the Sterlings or Astro Tech plossls. I have some credit at a company I may use to pick up a couple of Celestron Omni Plossls, to go along with the Sterlings. The 2 little ones are 2 and 6... so they are kind of rough with things and rowdy. Between the Sterlings, Astro Tech and Celestron, I should be able to get useful focal lengths.

I have ordered 2 of the Sterlings, the 17mm and the 20mm. To bad the 30mm is a 2" eyepiece. My 6" newt is only has a 1.25" focuser. :-(
