Default Delos vs. Morpheus vs. Delite

All three of these lines are currently on sale and I'm trying to make a choice between them.

Delos seems like it is of slightly higher optical quality (at $70 higher), but Morpheus appears to evoke emotional comments about its immersiveness (and cheaper rubber eyecup).

And specifically I'm less sure about the shorter focal lengths. I've seen several posts about the Delos below 8mm not being as popular, plus the Morpheus 4.5mm appears to have significant EOFB which is why I may consider the Delites at the short end but you're losing the wider view...

Not sure if my wife will go along with "buy both lines and re-sell the one you don't prefer" route

Anyway, gotta figure this out soon before the sales end...

I think it may depend a little on what you're going to use it for if you're looking at the low focal length eyepieces. For example if it is for planetary and lunar the Delite seems to be better and anyway you're most likely not concerned for this type of observing a really wide view. If it's for DSOs and planetary then the Delos or Delite.

One thing that may concern you is resale value. The Televue if you've bought at sale price you'd not lose much while the Baader you're going perhaps recover 50%

Whatever between the Delos and Delite for quality of view you can't go wrong... I'm now considering the 6mm Delos...

I'm wondering whether just getting the longer focal length Deloi plus a barlow might be a good option to consider.

Would a Delos + Explore Scientific 2x Focal extender in a Glatter Parallizer be too much weight on the focuser? This is on an Orion xx12i.

I think it would not be parfocal with and without the focal extender but there are always compromises...

Don't know if the stock focuser would handle it. As you say it's a fair weight however totalling 1kg i guess... it should be Ok. Again if it was observing DSOs I'd recommend against the Barlow option as by the time you've fit all that and shifted the focus so much you've most likely lost the object...

Good point about object types, I would expect to use it for all three - planetary, lunar, and DSOs (globulars for instance) since I only plan on having a relatively small eyepiece collection and not a lot of specialized EP's for different targets. In that light, the wider Delos is more versatile than the Delite and being a wider view may jive better with an untracked dob too.

Maybe instead of planning for a 7mm and 5mm Delite on the low end it makes sense to split the difference with a 6mm Delos and then see whether an eventual 4-4.5mm is justified later on down the line. Basically get a Delos 14mm/10mm/6mm combo to cover most needs and that will pretty much blow my entire holiday budget there

This is what I have... 14mm Delos and just received the 10mm. May still pick up the 6mm but on the fence as I do have the ES82 6.7 and 4.7... the 6mm yields 250x in my 12" which is most likely more than enough for the majority of nights seeing conditions for planetary and 150x with my 120ED for lunar and planetary.

OK, just ordered the 14mm/10mm/6mm Delos set. Hopefully they will arrive soon and we'll have some good weather to try them out

For fast scopes on objects requiring high definition Delos can't be beat (except by an orthoscopic in a slower scope). I've decided that between my Deloi and orthoscopics I need nothing else.
