Default Baader vs ES eyepiece question

With the E.S 68 degree eyepieces being on sale I am thinking of filling a gap in my eyepiece collection. I know both eyepieces are outstanding and I have never seen a negative review of either in the 24mm. But has anyone out there had the pleasure of having used both? If so how do they stack up in a direct comparison?

    Thanks

I'm not sure about the 68° but if the quality of the 68° line is the same as the ES82° line, I'd go with the ES. I have the ES82° in the 18mm & 24mm and the ES100° in 9mm and 5.5mm, and the Baader Hyperions in 5mm, 13mm, 17mm and 24mm. I would say the ES82° view is better in my f/5 scopes (quality wise). The contrast looks better in the ES eyepieces and the correction is better to the edge, though that's probably not an issue with your scope. The 24mm Hyperion is probably the weakest of the bunch and isn't modifiable (changing focal lengths with spacer rings). The 17mm was my favorite but I saw better contrast and fainter objects with my 9mm ES100°. The 24mm ES82° is probably my favorite and most used of all them.

Thanks, however I am not sure the CFO of the family will authorize the sort of expenditure to get the 24mm ES82 I find the 17mm my favorite as well. I do have the 21mm but usually have that rigged up as a 14mm with the spacers. Never that fussed with the 21mm to be honest.

From what I've read, the ES 68 or 82 will both be better than the Baader Hyperions. However, if you're talking about Baader Morpheus, those are probably better than the ES.

The ES is vastly superior to the Baader, especially so in a fast scope. This from hands on experience with a variety of scopes. All the Hyperions are gone, but you will have to pry my cold dead fingers from my ESs to get them from me.

Well, I'll give you a negative reply of the Baader 24mm. If you're only comparing those two, get the ES. But I'm confused, if you have the 21mm Hyperion, which is much better overall than the 24mm, why are you looking for a 24mm eyepiece being they're so close in magnification, FOV and exit pupil? Personally, I'd save my money and use the 21mm as a 21mm, unless you absolutely want to take advantage of the current sale on the ES 24mm 68deg.

I tried both and ES68 is better than Baader Hyperion. ES68 has sharper focus and less light scatter.

24mm ES68 is the most used EP when I go DSO hunting with my 8" SCT.

Yeah for whatever reason I have never really liked the 21mm and rarely use it. The ES at $103.00 becomes a pretty attractive option. especially as it is replacing a Meade 5000

I'm an 82o ES guy, but for several years used a full set (5mm-31mm) of the Hyperions.

The Hyperions are much "softer" than the ES eyepieces which are crisp all the way to the edge. Additionally, the 24mm Hyperion is absolutely the worst in the entire line. It is the only one that is not modular and is very "soft".

Thanks a couple of people have now mentioned the issue with the 24mm - To be honest I am thinking of going another way. Gonna start a thread and see what comes of it. 82 degree would be wonderful but I am only set up for 1.25 at the moment
