    Default UO HD Ortho arrived

I mentioned a week or so ago that I was going to acquire more of these very nice ep's. The first of two arrived today and I can't wait to take it out tonight. I have tried plossls and super plossls but for me, these UO's can't be beat ( I know, different strokes and such ). I now have a 12mm, a 9mm, and there is an 18mm on its way. A full set of Paradigm Dual ED's, and building a set of UO HD's, life is good.

Very nice. Whenever I manage to get a goto scope again I may well build a small set of orthos for bagging the fainter stuff. For now with just my manual alt/az Newt my widefields are preferred as I can spend more time looking at stuff and less time having to push the scope to keep the object in the FOV.

Congrats on the new EP's! I, too, am looking forward to hearing how they work for you. I have an older Celestron by Vixen 80mm (a.k.a. The Pumpkin) and a birthday coming up. The family wants to know what I'd like for that dubiously special event, so methinks one of these would be in order; perhaps the 18mm.
Enjoy them and again, let us know!

    All the best,

I have a set of the original offering of the UO HD Orthos, 5 through 18 mm. When the second offering came out, they had a 4 and a 25 mm eyepiece, so I bought those as well. The new ones are not parfocal with the first ones. However, that is a very minor factor. I think they have learned something along the way that has been applied to the new eyepieces. As good as my original eyepieces are, I think these new ones are better.

I cannot even imagine eyepieces better than these for splitting double stars. They have been my GoTo eyepieces for any adverse situation, be it transparency or seeing issues or whatever else that gets in the way of my other eyepieces.

If you are disappointed in those eyepieces, and you are sure your telescope is set up correctly, go get your eyes checked.

    Congratulations on your new acquisition(s).

Most people rate the Fujiyama Ortho (UO) between the Zeiss Abbe and Zeiss Abbe II. The Abbe II being the better of the two, and I completely agree with your last sentence

I have had the 9mm for a few months, it is one of the Fujiyama pieces. It was only recently that I had the opportunity to try it out. If the rest perform as well as the first ( and I don't doubt they will), I'll be a happy camper!
