Default One more EP in my arsenal: Swarovski SW 20x

    Hello all,

today I have added the Swarovski SW 20x f=23mm FOV ca 65° to my arsenal,

    http://www.astronomyforum.net/member...eyepieces.html

Similarly to the other Swarovski eyepieces, the field stop reveals a thin yellow/green fringe, which is due to the ED lense(s) to flatten the CA deviations of the fast refractor optics.
The first tests with the 6" F/5 SkyWatcher have been on the terrestrial objects:
spider web on a nearby roof, and the chimney test. This EP has passed the tests very well: the in-focus objects have been very sharp without noticeable CA edge-to-edge.

I promise, that's the last EP added to my arsenal, as I have already more EPs than needed.

Thanks for watching my album, and clear skies,

    JG

Wow JG! That's quite a collection. Clear skies with the new addition. What is the chimney test? There seems to be a problem with that link.

Hi JG! That is a fine looking eyepiece collection. Do you use them primarily for terrestrial observations? Thanks for sharing and clear skies!

    Hello Woody, hello Ed,

the chimney test is pointing the telescope at an edge of chimney, or house, or antenna holder, to see if the edge is sharp and free of false colors (chromatic aberration).
I also search for the spider webs, as they are low contrast objects, to see the contrast performance of the EP.

I am using the 6" refractor mostly for the astronomy.
For the terrestrial views, I take the Leica APO Televid spotting scope.

    Thanks for asking,

    JG

Gratz on the new EP! I think the right number of EPs = (EPs you already have) + 1. Or is it for telescopes? I am getting confused

    Hello not_Fritz,

my first Swarovskis have been the both slim old type EPs, as in my album. I've got them from a dealer as discontinued items, long time ago. These have blown me away on the red star in the Sigma Ori group, which has been really cherry red.
Then, I have added the f=10.2mm Swaro, and pointed the 6" achro refractor towards the NGS 2903 galaxy in the Leo's Head. The f=10.2mm Swaro has revealed the small core surrounded with the outer oval, but the Pentax XW f=10mm has failed to extract the core without using a yellow filter. In fact, most of the wide and ultrawide EPs look like undercorrected in blue wavelengths when mounted on the fast achro refractor, I guess.

The both Swaro SW eyepieces in my arsenal look to me like the EL Swarovision technology in the latest Swarovski binoculars (I have the 8.5x42 EL Swarovision). Similarly to the binoculars, the Swaro SW EPs require a very precise focusing, and the 1:10 as on my focuser is must to have.

    Thanks for the kind reply,

    JG
