    Default The Midnight Six....and 1/2

It's a great feeling to feel satisfied even for a short moment in time. It's been almost 6 years since I started to really take viewing the night sky "seriously". It all started when my next door neighbor who was moving was so gracious to give me his 60's 8" Edmund Newtonian that came with a few wonderful eyepieces and gave me my first real amazing views of Jupiter and Orion.

I was instantly hooked but like most of us was/am still on a real budget. I've been so lucky to have been able to put together in many regards a simple collection that has satisfied and thrilled me with wonderful views over and over again in all my scopes. It's not the most expensive or rare or anything special and of course the search continues but man am I really happy with them..For now.

I hope you find your perfect collection as well. Show us what your current lineup is right now.

Oh and I almost forgot this vintage Meade superwide 14mm "Smoothie". Now that I actually own a Meade SCT it's getting used a lot more these days now glad to say...That said the clouds just rolled in...

Hi Chris! Nice glass, sir! It looks like a wonderful collection!

I really enjoy my assembly of ES 82° eyepieces:

    Top row left to right:

    ES 82° 30mm, ES 82° 24mm, ES 82° 18mm, ES 70° 25mm, GSO Superview 30°

    Middle row left to right:

    Vite Aspherics 10mm, 4mm, 23mm, GSO 9mm Plossl

    Bottom row left to right:

    GSO ED 2" barlow, Zhumell Z Series 5mm, ES 82° 14mm, ES 82° 11mm, ES 82° 8.8mm, ES 82° 6.7mm, ES 82° 4.7mm

So all that gets me by pretty well. The Vites are primarily used in my 90mm Mak, but serve with my little 60mm frac too.

The ES EP's are my main drivers in my dob. I've got the range for nice low power wide-field views to close in planet views, to drilled down and pegging globular clusters orbiting M31.

Took me about a year to assemble my collection. My wife was gracious enough to turn me loose a few times. Otherwise, I'm on a budget too. Can't get rich by spending all your money, right?

Now if I could only get rich...

    Thanks for the thread sir.

That is a really fine collection Chris! I also have my favorites and one or two that make me wonder what I was thinking! I love my 2" ES 14 & 20 100 degree eyepieces in my Dob hunting down DSO's, the ES 5.5 and the Meade 9mm for planets but for wide fields I really like the 35 Panoptic and the Meade 56. Thanks for sharing!image.jpeg

Hi Matt! That's a fine looking case and you have a great collection of eyepieces! That sort of looks like a gun case. I was thinking of trying one because I wanted to put the things I use most all in the same case. Very nice!
