Default Baader Planetarium - 8-24mm Hyperion ClickStop Zoom Mark III Eyepiece -

Has anyone tried one of the Baader Planetarium - 8-24mm Hyperion ClickStop Zoom Mark III Eyepiece ?I would like to purchase one if they are as good as what the reviews claim.I'm going to be taking a lot of bicycle trips this year and it would save a little bit of extra gear to drag along.
I would be using it with my Orion StarBlast 62mm Compact Travel Refractor Telescope.Would this work well with this particular scope?Sure seems to get a lot of good reviews.I hope someone here with experience can fill me in on the good and bad.
Thanks for any advice you may have.

I've had a daytime view with one through my 127mm Mak, and was very impressed - the viewing at the centre of the field was pin-sharp right through the range.
Admittedly, not tried it at night, and didn't really check the full width of the field, but I think it's a smart eyepiece, and with all the intermediate focal lengths being parfocal it's great to be able to zoom in to adjust the focus and then zoom out to get the actual 'best' view.

I think the only caveat I've heard is that it's basically a Plossl, so the field of view is never huge, and at 24mm the field of view is particularly narrow; and hence, some people simply couldn't consider anything with such a 'restricted view'. I can see the point that someone used to an 80 degree AFOV may not like it, but as a normal user, it'll be fine for compact DSOs, but may be disappointing for more extended objects.

I'm quite seriously considering one (mostly for the parfocal aspects), though I will probably use it as part of a 2-EP setup alongside my 32mm Plossl,
which is the one I always reach for first.

Sadly, I can't comment on how it would work with the scope you've mentioned.

I have one and really enjoy it. It is a fairly large eyepiece. Make sure the size and weight aren't a problem for your setup. The fov is also kind of tight at the lower power settings. But the convenience of the zoom makes up for the shortcomings in my book.
Maybe someone that has a scope similiar to your's could chime in on the views it would give you.

I only have 2 eyepieces I use with it now. They have a tight fov as well.Sharpness is more important to me with this set-up.I found one on sale for $269 so I guess I better jump on it.I feel I could do a lot worse for the money. Thanks for the input.

Well my order from Telescopes.net arrived today.I'm very happy with the purchase. At high magnification the view gets a bit washed out but most likely from my telescope more so than the eyepiece.I would recommend anyone thinking about purchasing one of these to go for it.Very sharp image.

Glad to hear you are digging it. It's really a lot of fun splitting doubles, viewing planets, or checking moon details with a zoom. The only way I think I would ever sell mine is if I found a better zoom eyepiece.

I have one and it was worked really well since I don't do a lot of visual and it gives me a wide range of powers.

With that said, be careful using it in colder temperatures. I used mine a few times when it was below freezing and it has never been the same. When I took the nose piece off it looks like the plastic that wraps the pin used to change the zoom is getting bound up. I'm not sure if it can be fixed but it makes the eyepiece much harder to use.

Here's a picture of what I'm talking about. You can see the plastic that wraps the guide peg is distorted. In order to get it to zoom I have to give it a gentle jiggle.
