Another thing to keep in mind, Eric, really study on how you want to pluck your foam, and don't get in any hurry about it. You want to plan it out carefully lest you find yourself in a situation where it just doesn't work for you any longer and then you have no more foam. And make allowances for future additions to your eyepiece repertoire.

I recently decided I didn't like my layout:

So I changed it to this:

Fortunately I'd found a couple of slabs of pluck foam in some old boxes at work. That stuff gets expensive when you have to buy more.

I'm not planning on adding any more (for now anyway) since I've already sold my soul to the devil for the ones that I have.

JG, sure why not ?!? Slides of diseases, why of course !

John, why didn't I know this before losing a ton of money down at Foxwoods and Mohecan Sun in Connecticut ?!?

So guys, I'm a little shy to ask, but what is an "erecting EP" used for ? And do I need it ?

Among the MANY jobs I have had as a shipbuilder, is an insulator. We used sharpened steak knives (removed the serrated edge) to cut insulation. Worked perfectly. So I know about these, thanks though.

Yes, I see how good planning makes for useful application of the foam. And now that you have provided me with a picture, it will be a no-brainer to apply a similar footprint within the case when she arrives. Because you know, you galaxy hunter you, that I will likely end up with a similar line of EPs down the road. Thanks ! May your coyotes be fleet of foot when you holler "HA!!!!" at them, and your diving birds of prey (er poop) miss ye head, and that your wallet roundeth over, and produce and begat for you many more an eyepiece !

I used to have a large jawed hot foam cutter that I built for custom cutting foam for rifle cases. I may build another one to use for cutting foam for my astronomy gear as the collection grows.

I heard rubber cement can be used safely to reattach plucked pieces. I' ll give it a shot when needed.

You have enough EP's that you probably have a pretty good idea what sizes you use most (you'll know by the wear marks on the barrels). Keep those 3 or 4 sizes, and offload the rest. Some people like to hoard "stuff" just for the sake of hoarding it.

I would prefer to not let that stuff just sit and collect dust, and let someone else get good use out of them. You probably have enough to sell them all and really go nuts and concentrate your efforts on some real quality EP's. Quality over Quantity... But even if you're an oil baron and have a full line of every Tele Vuew EP ever made, 98% of those are still just sitting there collecting dust, so just because you *can* afford them all, doesn't mean you *need* to...

Make sure you test it out on an unused piece of foam, though.

I've used 3M spray glue (super 77) with great success...

Elmer's rubber cement seems to work fine, I have rearranged my EP case last weekend.
