Default Moon filter is now on my list

That moon is bright tonight, my eyes feel like I just did some arc welding without a hood. Next on my list is a good filter.

Yup. It'll sure do that to you. Then you walk around for a bit with that big black splotch in front of your vision, bumping into things.

The views without the filter are great until you look away!

Like Bryan says, you have that blind spot, talk about ruined night vision!
The moon washes out DSO viewing, seduces you into looking at it and then blinds you causing you to knock over precious equipment, well played Moon, well played!

I use a variable polarizing filter. It helps on Jupiter as well. Sometimes the moon filter is too dark on the smaller slices of the moon but you still need a little something.

Yeah, I've made both mistakes. Struck an arc by accident with the hood up, and looked at the full Moon. Bryan's right, too, it's like looking at everything the way a solar satellite sees the sun... big circle in your view!
Rich is right; variable polarizing filter.

    All the best,

Another vote for a variable filter. Far superior

Yep. I just came back in because of that evil orb. I got a decent look at the Beehive Cluster and a few other brighter jewels while I was out so it wasn't a total loss. DSO's? Forget it.
