Default Feeling Brave, Just Hit The Order Button

Now, a brief history of recent weather events here in Jackson, Michigan. Friday night and Saturday morning an unusually vicious snowstorm (for mid-April) decended on us, dropping heavy wet snow at a copious rate. as temperatures dropped after midnight early on Saturday the snow became a bit more powdery and the wind kicked up producing brief spells of near-blizzard conditions, single digit wind chills, and leaving 7.5" of snow for everyone to enjoy when they woke up that morning! It honestly felt more like late January than April 9! So why in the world after all that just a few days ago would I even want to tempt Mother Nature by purchasing any astro gear?! Well, that ES sale just turned out to be too much for me to resist, so there is now an 82* 6.7mm on the way to my residence!

Why the 6.7mm, you ask? I have plans for it to be a dedicated planetary and glob EP for my 4.5" Newt. Now, my original plans were for all my shorter focal length EPs to be Delos, as I enjoyed the 17.3mm so much. I planned to upgrade even my 4-6mm range EPs to Delos even though they'd only ever see use in my small scope. I got to thinking, though, that's an awful lot of money for something that'd only get used occasionally in my 4.5" newt, because reality is, if I want to do some serious planetary and glob work I'll break out the 11" scope and use the 17.3 Delos and 14mm Meade that I already own along with the 12mm Delos and 10mm Pentax that I plan to acquire. When the ES EPs went on sale for $99 a pop that was it! I debated for a couple days but decided today to pull the trigger on the 6.7mm today (to replace my current 6mm) I plan to add the 4.7mm in the near future which should serve as a good replacement for my 4 and 5mm EPs. I'll sure save a ton of money going with the ES 6.7mm and 4.7mm rather than the Delos 6mm and 4mm, especially with the ES EPs on sale for $99! I'm hoping to add the 12mm Delos for my big scope in time for the Mars and Saturn show coming up as we head towards late spring and early summer. Either the 10mm Pentax XW or 10mm Delos will round out my EPs for the big scope.

Nice, Wings! That EP should compliment your setup very well!

With all of the gear purchases lately, I think you need to worry about more than the cloud gods! I think you might be getting close to pulling a meteor down on your town at this point!

Not around here, but someone down in Texas must have ordered some sweet gear yesterday judging by a few of those hail videos!

Hi WF. Congratulations on the new 6.7mm 82° eyepiece on it's way to you. This make a wonderful addition to your eyepiece arsenal, and give you many happy observing sessions. Thanks for your new equipment report WF, and I hope to read your first light report with this new eyepiece soon.

Congrats on the new glass, WF! That's a great eyepiece. Don't be shy about putting it in the big scope. I think you'll find it does an admirable job there too.

I'm sure I'll try it as I do enjoy pushing the limits and I have successfully used a 6mm on the moon in my big scope a couple times! The 6.7 will get me 418x magnification in Big Daddy! The 4.7mm would be almost 600x! (596x to be exact)
