    Default Antares 32mm Erfle?

I picked a used one of CN. Anyone have info on FOV and ER for this EP?

I know eye relieve will not be an issue and FOV is in 65-70 degree range, but I keep database on my EPs and like to have as accurate specs as possible.

Pretty much an Erfle is an Erfle. Will be similar to the GSO 30mm shipped with their dobs such as Zhumell (& now defunct Apertura label). Good usable eyepieces, but not great in faster scopes. Should do just fine in your SCT. I think ER is around 13mm to 15mm, give or take.

How do the Antares 2 inch Erfle perform?

Hi Bigzmey. I recently bought a military surplus 55mm Erfle from Russell Optical on eBay. It is a pretty good performer for the wide angle and low power magnification, and was a standard wide field eyepiece in the early 1960's. However, as you are probably aware, this old design was later superseded first by the Konigs, and then by the amazing 80°/82°, 100°, and 110° eyepieces available nowadays, although at a considerable higher cost. It is good to know that you have a piece of astronomy history in your collection. Thanks for your post Bigzmey, and the best of regards.

Two things I don't like about 2" 82-110 degree EPs (other than the price ) are bulk and weight. I already have a couple of modified Erfles in my collection and like combination of price, weight, size, image quality and FOV. In 30-50mm range they are mostly scouting EPs and work fine for that purpose. Antares is a 6 element EP, so I assume it is also modified Erfle design and should perform alone the EPs I already have.

So, I have received the EP, measured field stop and calculated FOV to be around 70 degree. Waiting for clear sky to test it and couple of ES EPs I got on sale. It has been 2 weeks since my last session...

I was really tempted by that one on CN. I've been a little bad lately so I didn't inquire. I'm betting it will be a great EP. I have an unbranded 1.25" 32mm Erfle given to me by my mentor way back when that continues to astound me. Something about that combo. Enjoy and please report back.

I did a quick test yesterday. Cant say much about the contrast - moon was bright so background in EP was quite milky, but the stars where pin sharp and considerable increase in the FOV compared to 26mm EP. I will retest with no moon around, but at this point looks like a keeper
