    Default Celestron Omni XLT eyepiece

I just took delivery of an Omni 150XLT Newt. The included 25mm eyepiece took me by surprise. It isn't one that I have seen before. It seems to be a significant cut above the quality that you usually see for included eyepieces at this level. The build quality is more than I would have expected. It appears to offer a wider view (maybe 55 degree) with very nice eye relief. The upper rubber portion/eyecup rotates up and down to one's desired height. The ubiquitous barrel cut is present. The only "cheap" part is the 25mm tag which is a plastic sticker. To its credit it's inset into the rubber. An upper lens protective cap isn't included so it will have to go into a bolt case. Does anyone have any experience with one of these? What are they? Any good?

That look eerily familiar to the 25mm that came with my SkyWatcher refractor. And I've never used it.

Hi Rogan. I received one with my Celestron XLT150R refractor too. In the old days, the manufacturers would include the Japanese standard (.965") Achromatic Ramsden and Huygens eyepieces, which are junk. This eyepiece is a very good quality plossl eyepiece, and I also like the twist up eyecup. Although, like Hobbit (Rob), I primarily use 2" eyepieces with my XLT150 refractor now, but I found this "included" eyepiece to be an exceptionally good lens, and better than the other 25mm eyepieces that I had received with my other telescopes. For me, this is a "keeper", as it is well built, and performs quite well. I hope that this helps Rogan, and the best of wishes for many clear skies.

I was looking at the skywatcher eps today and they do look quite similar. Synta doing some re-purposing I imagine.

Hey all. Thanks for the info. I quite agree that it's nice to get an eyepiece with a new scope that won't end up in the sock drawer. I'm pretty evenly split between using 1.25" and 2" eyepieces so this one will see use.
