Yeah, I've read that stuff too. Looks fairly easy to do. I might do that sometime soon.

These should be decent EP's in my 60mm refractor too. I do have a hybrid diagonal that accepts 1.25" barrels.
I'm thinking about using my 4mm Vite for target practice. The 10 and 23 are well worth owning.

A real problem is that the 4mm requires such exceptionable skies to begin with to be useable it already has two strikes against it.

Hi Rogan! Yeah, I hear you. I've read where some folks are removing the Stephens element from the barrel, thus rendering this into a 7mm or maybe a 9mm and making a more useful eyepiece out of it.

Otherwise, it'll make a good sacrificial eyepiece to appease the cloud Devils if it is ever needed.

If I could convert it to 7mm that would save it from a fate as range fodder. I'd also like to see just what it can do as-is under optimal conditions before doing anything. You never know.

Boy, those Vites really attracted some bad weather, didn't they! I have been watching the Weather Channel and looking at some of this weather around the south...no drought worries down there, are there!

I ordered a set too, but don't expect to see them any time soon. In the past, I have seen some of the inexpensive EPs perform pretty darn well in different scopes. The 4mm isn't that powerful in a 400mm wide-field scope (like the ETX-80 or my Travelscope). Worst case is that it would make a nice cap for the OTA.

It actually cleared off this evening and the wind died down. I've got the dob and Baby Mak sitting out cooling right now. Hopefully I can give the Vites a try.

I hope you spent some time during those rainy days to align the RDF on the Baby MAK. I think that you might be impressed with a shot of Jupiter once you get her aligned with a wide angle lens.
