Default DGM Filter falls out, Help!!!

Just got a DGM NPB narrowband filter.

When I try to screw it into a Agena Starguider Dual ED 25 mm eyepiece, it rattles and falls out.

My colored planetary filters fit it fine.

What can I do to make the DGM filter stay attached????

Does it thread onto other Ep's with the same looseness? Just curious if the Dual ED EP may be the culprit. My NPB (2" version) fits all my Ep's and adapters fine.

Only the Starguider has the problem. I just purchased it too.

But my other color filters work fine with the Starguider and all the other EPs

I'm guessing yours is a 1.25" filter? I recall reading years ago that the 1.25" threads aren't cut as far back on the housing so they don't screw in well on some eyepieces. In fact, at that time, I had 1.25" DGM filters and had the same problem with the old UO volcano top Abbes, they were always loose. I had to start screwing them into the scope side of my 1.25" diagonal just to use them safely. Can you reverse the barrel on your Starguider eyepiece where you can maybe use the opposite side of the barrel for your filters?

Last possibility I can think of is perhaps buy a cheap color filter that will thread on securely from somewhere, then discard the filter and screw the NPB into the end of that filter housing. Just a thought.

It seems that the O.D of the filter's threads is 28.28 mm and the problematic EP I.D is 28.2 mm leaving very little to hold. The other EP that do work are 27.9 and 28.0 mm. Add in the fact that the length of the threads are short on the filter and there is a tapered cut at the opening to help make adding filters more easily explains why I have an issue.

I measured the O.D. Of a moon and some color planetary filters and the are all about 28.4 mm O.D. Of the threads.

Clearly it seems that the DGM filters are about .2 mm too small in diameter.

Call DGM and explain the problem.
Maybe you got the odd-ball under cut frame piece.
Chances are, they'll send you a replacement.

I already sent an email. Will wait and see. I was just wondering if others have had this problem and how they solved it outside of replacement.

    Update:

Dan is a great person and an asset to this hobby. I go an email this morning and in short order he offered to to have me return the filter and covered the cost to ship it back to him. In addition, he said he would look through his stock for a filter with larger diameter threads so that it will work better with my EP.

Thanks Dan. I really appreciate you going above and beyond the call of duty for me.

I just wanted to let everyone know this and I am happy to buy from him now and in the future. He truly exemplifies great customer service.

    Thanks Dan!!!!
