Default New zoom way too tight

I just received a new Meade 8-24mm zoom. The twist is EXTREMELY tight (even with 2 hands and warm temps). Is there any way to loosen this up? I've tried twisting back & forth over a hundred times with no change at all.

Sounds like you should send it back. You want it to have a tiny bit of snugness to it but something is not right with it.

Is it still hard to turn if you turn it slowly?

For a comparison, my Celestron Zoom EP (8-24mm) turns snug, but not with any irritating difficulty. So to compare, I would think it should go a little snug but not too badly so.

Okay reason I asked is sometimes they use a certain viscosity grease that is pretty easy to move slowly but thickens up when moved rapidly. As is by design.

Sounds like you need to return it to me. But never had one so I will defer to the experts.

It sounds like it is a bit too tight.,I use two hands to turn mine..so it doesn't spin in the diagonal.,, but it's not a struggle to turn it.,I would at least try to talk with someone from where you got it,.,if your not comfortable with it.,see what they say.,,O+O

Yeah, too tight sounds like a problem to me. If you are centered on a target, and have to struggle to change the focal length on the eyepiece, no telling where your scope will end up pointing by the time you get done fighting with it. That'll suck the fun right out of things.

Thanks everyone. I contacted Meade regarding this. They are going to exchange it for another one. I was just hoping there was some simple fix I could do.

Your better off with the replacement trust me. If you tinkered with it you might not get it fixed, and void the warranty.
