Default Suggestions for eyepieces for a newb with refractor.

Looking for suggestions for several eyepieces for this new hobby.

Bought my first scope for Christmas, the ES ar127 refractor. It's a f/6.5 with a focal length of 826mm.

Before anyone says "it depends on what you want to look at", let me say that I want to look at everything!

I would like to stay with the ES line of eyepieces. Could I get recommendations like this ep is good for moon, this ep is good for Saturn, this ep is good for galaxies, etc, etc.

Will probably get about 4 eps to start with. Have considered the Baader zoom to start with but I still want to get about 4 primes as well.

    thanks.

On a side note I bought my scope at Christmas time and just today received the Avx mount today. Hadn't opened the scope until today. Unpacked and set the mount up then opened and unpacked the scope and got it all set up. After everything was setup I removed the end cap and first thing I saw... There is a 2cm x 1cm crack on the inner side edge of the front element no damage to any boxes, not sure how this got through qc. Hopefully won't have any problems exchanging it. I guess it's cloudy anyways.

    Eta: yes Wingsfan81 it's has a 2" diagonal, thanks.

Assuming your scope came with a 2" diagonal just about everyone recommends the ES 82* 18mm for galaxies and other DSOs. I'm looking to upgrade my EP collection soon and this is one of the EPs I'm strongly considering.

The customer service at ES is top notch, you will have no problem. You will love the scope! The only downside I've found (I have the AR102 not the 127) is some CA on very bright objects. It's not bad and much less than other achros I've used but it is there. I bought a Baader Moon&SkyGlow filter and FringeKiller filter for viewing Jupiter and Saturn with the scope and that has totally removed any CA when viewing the planets. Baader's Semi Apo filter does the same thing but is more aggressive and imparts a slight yellow color I don't like so I prefer the SkyGlow/FringeKiller combo. As for EPs, I say get the ES 82s and I would go with the 30mm, 18mm, 11mm, and 6.7mm if I were to choose four of them.

Then I would add the 8.8mm to the list.

Hi Adluginb. My favorite 2" eyepieces are my Orion Q70s, University Optics 80s, and the ES 82 degree 18mm and ES 100 degree 9mm eyepieces. And, of these, the ES 82 degree 18mm is the most used by me, on my 6" refractor and 12" Dob. I hope this helps Adluginb, and the best of wishes for many clear skies.
