    Default Christmas present

So I put my order in to Santa and the big guy came through with a Baader Hyperion 24mm wide angle EP.

My first impression was that this is one chuncky eye piece, particularly beside my el cheapo plossls. I was concerned my mount would handle all the extra weight! But i put it on and adjusted the balance and it wasn't too bad. Then i had to wait for a night when i wasn't on the sauce...

Last night was the night. Have to wait untill 11pm at the moment, which worked out well because there was a cracking cricket game on. Before the game I wondered out, set up, aligned the RACI and Rigel and went back in. Finally it was dark enough so i head out, pointed the scope at the Orion Nebula and stuck the Baader in. HOLY COW!! This thing is amazing! Nothing has looked this bright before and I could see so much.

Swung it around to look for the Sculptor galaxy and after a bit of star hopping i found it. Again things were so much brighter than I had seen before and the galaxy looked like a glorious smudge and I swear I could make out the bright core. Moved up a little and checked out NGC 288.

Finding things with this EP is so much easier than with the 20mm erecting EP that came with my scope. So much sky is visible and even faint DSOs seem to jump out at you. The only problem now is I NEED to replace my 9 and 13mm plossls with Baader equivalents. And I cant wait for Santa to come by

Thanks guys. Yes, I'm very impressed with it. I've been operating on a pretty lean budget to date and had pretty good sucess with it. But the difference was outstanding, even with my small cheap scope.
